\nGen Ke lsang Menla is the Resident Teacher at KMC Texas in Dallas. He wa s ordained as a Kadampa Buddhist monk in 2001 and has taught Kadampa Buddh ism since that time. He brings a warm heart and joyful attitude to sharing Buddha’s teachings and the practice of meditation.
This is our daily meditation practice at the center. Everyo ne is welcome. Just come any morning and we can help you.
\nHeart Jewel is a Guru yoga of Je Tsongkhapacombined with the condense d sadhana of his Dharma Protector and a 20 minute mediation on Lamrim.
\nThis puja inc ludes two practices revealed by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri. The first is a special Guru yoga in which we visualize our Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongk hapa\, who himself is a manifestation of Manjushri.
\nBy relying upo n this practice\, we can purify negativity\, accumulate merit\, and receiv e blessings. In this way\, we will naturally accomplish all the realizatio ns of the stages of the path of Sutra andTantra\, and in particular we will attain a ve ry special Dharma wisdom.
\nThe second practice is a method for rely ing upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. Through this\, we can overcom e obstacles to our practice and create favourable conditions so that we ca n nurture and increase our Dharma realizations.
\nIf we rely upon th e Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden sincerely\, our faith in Je Tsongkhapa wi ll naturally increase and we will easily gain experience of the pure Buddhadharmatransmi tted directly to Je Tsongkhapa by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri.
\nThe se two practices are the very essence of the New Kadampa Tradition of Mahayana Bu ddhism. If we practice them regularly and sincerely\, we will reap a rich harvest of pureDhar ma realizations\, and eventually come to experience the supreme joy of full enlightenment.
\nAn extensive explanation of this sadhana can be found in the book Hea rt Jewel\, by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso.

\nFoundation Program is a special opportu nity to study and practice Buddha’s teaching in a in a more in depth forma l study program. It is our advanced class\, and we recommend people atten d a few General Program classes before considering participating in this c lass. However\, it is open to everyone at anytime.
\nThe New Heart of Wisdom is an extraordinary book. It reveals the direct and hidden meani ngs of Buddha’s Perfection of Wisdom Sutras in a way that we can apply them to our modern life.
\nAs soon as we star t reading we feel as if we are transported back to 567 BC listening to Bud dha himself as he delivers the Sutra on Massed Vultures Mountain.
\nThen reading Venerable Geshe-la’s commentary to the Sutra we are brought i mmediately to the present day and see clearly how the profound meaning of this Sutra can be applied to solving the problems of modern life and to tr ansforming our daily life into the path to liberation and enlightenment. p>\n
And when we read in the appendices how to apply the meaning of the Sutra to Tantric practice and experience the union of profundity and clari ty\, we see how it is possible to complete this journey swiftly through pr acticing the union of Sutra and Tantra.
\nWhat could be more preciou s?

Additiona l Information:
\nThe purpose of the Foundation Program is t o provide a systematic presentation of particular subjects of Mahayana Bud dhism to enable practitioners to deepen their knowledge and experience of Buddhism.
\nFive Subjects
\nThe program compr ises the following five subjects\, based on Buddha’s Sutra teachings and t he corresponding commentaries by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso:
\nThe benefits of studyin g and practicing these texts are as follows:
\nJoyful Path of Good Fortune a> – we gain the ability to put all Buddha’s teachings of both Sutra and T antra into practice. We can easily make progress on and complete the stage s of the path to the supreme happiness of enlightenment. From a practical point of view\, the Stages of the Path is the main body of Buddha’s teachings\, and the other teachings are like its limbs.
\nUniversal Compassion and Eight Steps to Happines s – we gain the ability to integrate Buddha’s teachings into our daily lives and solve all our human problems.
\nHeart of Wisdom – we gain a realization o f the ultimate nature of reality. By gaining this realization we can elimi nate the ignorance of self-grasping\, which is the root of all our sufferi ng.
\nMea ningful to Behold – we transform our daily activities into the Bodhisa ttva’s way of life\, thereby making every moment of our human life meaning ful.
\nUnderstanding the Mind – we understand the relationship between our mi nd and its external objects. If we understand that objects depend upon the subjective mind\, we can change the way objects appear to us by changing our own mind. Gradually we shall gain the ability to control our mind and in this way solve all our problems.

Come join us for special p rayers to the Buddha of Compassion. We make prayers for our self and all l iving beings to be freed from suffering and problems\, and to increase lov e\, decency and compassion in our world. No experience is necessary\, just drop in. There is no charge for this or any other devotional practice.
\nAvalokiteshvara is an enlightened being who is a manifestation of al l Buddhas’ compassion. He is known as the Buddha of Compassion.
\nHe usually appears as white in colour with four arms. His first two hands ar e pressed together at his heart\, symbolizing his respect for his Spiritua l Guide\, Buddha Amitabha\, who is on his crown. Even though Avalokiteshva ra is an enlightened being\, he still shows respect to his Spiritual Guide . His first two hands hold a jewel\, which symbolizes his own enlightenmen t. This mudra is indicating\, “I attained jewel-like great enlightenment t hrough receiving blessings from my Spiritual Guide Amitabha”.
\nHis second left hand holds a white lotus flower. A lotus grows in the mud at t he bottom of a lake\, but its flowers bloom on the surface of the water\, completely free from the stains of mud. By holding a lotus flower Avalokit eshvara is showing that\, because he attained enlightenment\, he is free f rom all obstacles and has a completely pure body\, speech\, and mind. His second right hand holds a crystal mala\, symbolizing that he can free all living beings from samsara and lead them to liberation.
\nIf we rely sincerely upon Avalokiteshvara and recite his mantra with strong faith\, temporarily we will improve our realizations of the stages of the path\, e specially our realization of great compassion\, and ultimately we will att ain supreme Buddhahood in Avalokiteshvara’s Pure Land\, the Pure Land of B liss.
\nThis sadhana is very blessed. The main body of the sadhana w as composed by a great Tibetan Yogi called Drubchen Tangtong Gyalpo\, who came from Ngam Ring Monastery in eastern Tibet.
\nThe prayer of seve n limbs\, offering the mandala\, requesting the five great meanings\, and the final dedication verse were later added by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gya tso.

\nThis puja includes two practices revealed by the Wisdom B uddha Manjushri. The first is a special Guru yoga in which we visualize ou r Spiritual Guide as Je Tsongkhapa\, who himself is a manifestation of Man jushri.
\nBy relying upon this practice\, we can purify negativity\, accumulate merit\, and receive blessings. In this way\, we will naturally accomplish all the realizations of the stages of the path of Sutra andTantra\, and in particular we will attain a very special Dharma wisdom.
\nThe second practice is a method for relying upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. Through this\, we can overcome obstacles to our practice and create favou rable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our Dharma realizatio ns.
\nIf we rely upon the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden sincerely\, our faith in Je Tsongkhapa will naturally increase and we will easily gai n experience of the pure Buddhadharmatransmitted directly to Je Tsongkhapa by the Wisdom Buddha Manjushri.
\nThese two practices are the very essence of the New Kadamp a Tradition of Mahayana Buddhism. If we practice them regularly and si ncerely\, we will reap a rich harvest of pureDharma realizations\, and eventually come to experience the supreme joy of full enlightenment.

\nThe practice of relying u pon a Spiritual Guide\, or ‘Guru Yoga’\, is the root of the spiritual path and the foundation of all spiritual attainments.
\nIn Kadampa Buddhism\, Gu ru Yoga is practiced in association with Je Tsongkhapa\, an emanation of the Wisdom Buddh a Manjushri.
\nThe principal Guru Yoga of Je Tsongkhapa is Offering to the Spiritual Guide\, which is an extensive practice that is usually pe rformed twice a month\, on the 10th and 25th days\, at Kadampa Buddhist centers.
\nIt was compiled by the first Panchen Lama\, Losang Chökyi Gyaltsän\, as a preliminary pra ctice for Vajrayana Mah amudra.
\nAlthough the main practice is reliance upon the Spirit ual Guide\, it also includes all the essential practices of the stages of the path ( Lamrim) and tra ining the mind (Lojong)\, as well as both the generation stage and com pletion stage of Highest Yoga Tantra.
\nGuru yoga is a special metho d for receiving the blessings of our Spiritual Guide. Here\, the term ‘Gur u’ does not imply that our Spiritual Guide should be Indian. Our Spiritual Guide is any spiritual Teacher who sincerely leads us into spiritual path s by giving correct instructions.
\nThus our Spiritual Guide can be oriental or western\, lay or ordained\, male or female. These days\, for e xample\, it is quite possible to meet a Spiritual Guide who is a western l ay female. The term ‘yoga’ in this context indicates a special way of view ing our Spiritual Guide.
\nTo find out more about this practice\, se e the book G reat Treasury of Merit.

Come join us for this beautiful and ancient puja which focuses on making special prayers and req uests for the recently deceased\, and helps them to attain rebirth in a Pu re Land (Heaven). No experience is necessary.
\nThrough practising transference of consciousness\, known as ‘powa’ with faith\, compassion an d concentration we can transfer the consciousness of those recently deceas ed to a higher rebirth or to the Pure Land of a Buddha. The Powa Cerem ony can be done either by a group of practitioners or individually on behalf of one or more deceased persons\, or countless deceased beings. By engaging in this practice we also create a great collection of virtue\, w hich will also lead us into the pathway to a Buddha’s Pure Land.

Fr ee from worry\, loneliness\, isolation\, physical pain\, and all forms of mental suffering. This freedom is possible.
\nIn his very first teac hing\, Buddha taught a path to complete freedom which begins with the wise instruction\, “You should know suffering.” Although this could be seen as taking a sour or negative view on life\, it is instead incredibly authent ic and liberating. By knowing our own suffering and fully owning it throug h total acceptance\, we can come to understand the suffering of others wit h a grounded empathy. This will lead us to understand the deeper causes of all our suffering — such as karma — and these insights will lead us to a total freedom from suffering. Further\, by understanding that we are not d efined by our suffering\, but our very nature is that of pure freedom wait ing to be realized\, we can base an understanding of our self on this inde structible potential for lasting happiness.
\nJoin us for this half- day retreat with Resident Teacher from KMC Texas\, Gen Kelsang Menla. He w ill give thoughtful and inspiring teachings\, guide meditations\, and offe r practical mindfulness tools for daily life that will help us all to crea te more inner and outer peace in our lives. Everyone welcome!
\nAddi tionally\, we will offer Wishfulfilling Jewel puja* with a teaching from 3 pm – 4:30 pm after the retreat. These special chanted prayers are a tradi tional Buddhist ritual that help us to connect with Buddha and receive spe cial protection in our lives. It is open to all.
